Nancy Fishelson's Former Home

There's been an interruption in my series of summer cottage rooms.  During my usual Wednesday night web surfing, I found photos of designer Nancy Fishelson's former Connecticut home, which appears to have recently sold.  The cozy but spare interiors of Fishelson's homes have always appealed to me and I thought you might like to see the house as well.  Many of these rooms will be familiar to users of Pinterest and avid decor blog readers.  All photos are from Sotheby's Realty.

I'm not going to post much commentary.  Much better to let the interiors do the talking.  I will say that the guest bathroom (see below) is surprisingly one of my favorite rooms.

Enjoy.

Pretty neat guest bathroom, isn't it?

For an even better view of the home, visit Sotheby's here for a panoramic video tour.  I promise that it's worth trip.

  1. Beautiful colours, but looks posed. Chairs without tables beside them are useless and never used.

    1. I get the impression that Nancy Fishelson has an extensive collection of American antiques and country furniture. It could be that she has so many pieces that she needs to find a spot for them wherever she can. Plus, these are real estate photos, not photos styled for a magazine. All beautiful, nonetheless, in my opinion.

  2. Nancy is one of my favorite designers working today! Probably top 5!!! Her interiors are spare and edited but warm and interesting. I love how she deconstructs folk art and country furniture. Thanks for sharing these photos, Deborah. My first time seeing many of them.
    Cheers,

  3. Deborah,
Love the wide wood plank floors, the ceiling treatments with the dark beams, the kitchen, the pale / neutral tones on the furniture fabrics, and the pretty windows.
That high bed makes me want to crawl into it immediately. I'd like to take a shower in that guest bath too!

Bet the new owners will love it there. I wonder what they will do to the decor. Wouldn't it be fun to see a 'before' and 'after'?

  4. This was great, Deborah. I've always admired Fishelson and have collected many images of her work, but have never seen these.
She inspires me to be simpler and sparer as you often do, but I'm failing miserably. Thank you so much for further inspiration. It really was a super tour.

Love its beauty in all its simple-ness, its greys and natural growth of its gardens.

  7. Would it really be possible to live in a house like that? Where would you put your 'stuff'? She must have a room we don't see filled with all the things she removed from the "picture" rooms. But I freely admit that there is a lot of power in simplicity. Ann

  11. Deborah,
A friend of mine told me about your blog. I was thrilled to see the photos, as I had not seen
many of these photos. They were done by the realty company. Thank you for your kind and gracious
    Comments...and all the others.
By the way, I am a huge fan of Loi's work and his shop, which sadly I have only seen photos of.
As for the chairs without tables....I did sit in them, usually with a good book!
Thank you again and I will follow your blog!
