Pinterest Point of View

One of my boards on Pinterest

I'm a reluctant follower and usually at the tail end of a trend.  I only joined Facebook and Twitter last year.  My list of Facebook friends is embarrassingly short and my tweets are sporadic at best. It's hard to keep up with my blog, never mind "social media".  The problem is that I'm not a very social person.  I'm quiet, reserved and basically an introvert.  And I'm happy that way.  Socializing with people other than friends and family makes me uncomfortable sometimes. Socializing online with strangers can make me, well, tense.  It's the same feeling I get before going to the dentist. I've realized that since I'm not gregarious by nature, a website won't transform me into a social maven.  Even with some comfort of anonymity.

So when Pinterest rolled around, I rolled my eyes.  I'm busy enough with a full time job, my parents, my partner / boyfriend, friends, (even a cat), tennis.  And a blog (and I forgot about LinkedIn).  I wasn't looking for another reason to sit in front of the computer.  But it's done now.  I've tried it and like it.  Very much.

Pinterest is a different medium than FB or Twitter, for sure.  But for me, it's ideal because it's all about visuals.  Pinning photos from the web onto your boards is lightning fast and easy.  The source of the photo is included within the pin so no need to track the source yourself. Once I got going, it only took me ten minutes to create a board.  And if I'm in the mood to write, I can add a comment to the pin.  It's less time consuming than blogging and Facebook and Twitter.
And more fun sometimes.

So what do you think of Pinterest?  Have you tried it yet?  Are you using it more often than your blog / Facebook / Twitter account?

  1. Your Pinterest pictures are very pretty. I particularly like that wire basket.

Like you, I'm an introvert. I don't even like talking on the phone! I don't have a Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest account and probably never will. I don't have a cell phone, Blackberry or i-anything and probably never will.

Okay, I'll go crawl back into my cave now!

  2. I can be totally addicted if I allow myself... but it is a time-sucker, isn't it? Sit down at Pinterest and 3 hours later, oh man, where did the time go! Baby bites and baby steps! Thanks for sharing and have a terrific Thursday.

    1. That must be a technical glitch and I can't imagine why they have it set-up so one must be "invited" anyway. Manufactured scarcity, I say.

  5. I'm in so much trouble. I started pinning about a month ago and this addictive personality of mine has jumped all over it. I've even stayed up all night a couple of times. Consider yourself warned.

ps - really love your blog. Debra

    1. Hi Peggy - You are probably too busy with design work to be pinning away on Pinterest!

  8. I like pinterest but time is my problem. I barely know how to use facebook and I don't twitter. All these things take time of which I'm extremely short on because of my work and life. I am social so I make time for my blog!

    Happy Friday!

  10. Like you dahhling I was very relunctant at the thought of yet another "new thing" but at the insistance of my dear Marquesa I tried it & like you, loved it! I find that I could load all my photos (in the thousands) I had been saving on my computer in neatly organized folders for future reference & use.

  11. Love Pinterest. Though the time does get away on me. I could actually be doing the ideas I see on the different sites instead of sitting here. Oh well, still love it.

  12. HI Donna!
I too have resisted joining Pinterest. Everyone says it's addictive, but I haven't felt that I could spare much time for it. I'm on Facebook and Twitter but I forget to post on twitter more than I do! I definitely can live without that one! Facebook has been a good experience a mix of family and friends.
I'll break down and try Pinterest one of these days! I love visual experiences so I imagine I'll get hooked real quick!
Good to see you post again!

  13. Hi Donna, you are so ispiring, who the heck cares about facebook! I mean really, I only have a facebook account so I could join some other sites that require facebook. Even my kids have shut down their Facebook accounts.

I do like to Pinterest, but again it just makes for more time inside, instead of enjoying the beauty of the outdoors and spring and fresh air!

    best, Kelley

  14. Pinterest makes sense for me........it is my favorite!

I joined Facebook because my daughter and her family moved to Madrid, Spain for a year! I could keep track of them.....and know (sort of) where they were!

I have been a decorator all my life; and I had (50 or more ) notebooks with pictures ripped out of magazines........and really no way to organize them.........

Pinterest is a dream come true!

All the notebooks are pitched........(or almost all) and they are now in the "cloud"!

    Adore "Pinterest"!!
