Is the giant clam shell trend on the way out? I haven't bought one, mainly because they're everywhere these days and those I've seen are ridiculously expensive. Here's an inexpensive resin shell for $39 that looks like the real thing and it's large enough to make a statement. It's a good way to try the look without spending a lot of money.
i love them deborah. my girlfriend has one on her dining room table with a fern in it and it's gorgeous. but this gal doesn't care whether things are in or out. i need to do a post on her home. it's incredible if you love the english countryhouse look.

Would be nice in several areas in the home. Love the idea janet shared...with the fern in it. Have a wonderful weekend!!
ReplyDeleteThe resin clamshell you've shown has great detail. I have a 10 inch real clam and a mid-size and Giant clamshell by Flat Earth Designs (giant one has been licensed to Pottery Barn and they produce it now for $149). You may remember my dilemma about the giant ball or clamshell in my fireplace. I went with the ball but now have my clamshell in my dark brown dining room on the bottom shelf of a console table. I've filled it just with sand and because it's off the floor about 6 inches I really like how it looks.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend.
On the way out? Perhaps, but, I don't care. I really like the look and think your resin find is great! Perhaps the giant clamshell will end up being a timeless accessory. Roxanne
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm concerned, shells never go out of style! I had my shell collection long before shells became trendy and I'll have it long after the trend is over. I bought two giant resin clamshells from Crate & Barrel a couple of years ago and I absolutely love them!
ReplyDeleteWow - thank you for the tip - I have looked at the more expensive ones many times - this looks like a great solution!!
ReplyDeleteI am such a island/beach person that they will never go out of style in my house...actually I don't even own one because they are always so expensive so thanks for the tip on the $39 one!
ReplyDeleteYour $39 clam looks pretty good, did you buy one? I haven't tried the trend mainly because I don't have a place to put a big clam shell. Besides it seemed like a trend to me and would be out of fashion as soon as I bought one just like what happened with my moss balls. Have a wonderful Easter Day Deborah!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the all the comments. I'm glad that the link to the $39 shell may be helpful! I haven't bought one because my home is small and I'm not sure I have the room to display it or store it when I get tired of it, which tends to happen. Also, I'm trying not to accumulate too much "stuff" and lastly I want to collect a particular china and silver flatware pattern, so will put my dollars towards those items for now.
ReplyDeleteI don´t believe that is hand-made it looks so real!!! Thank you for your ad. Julia C. from BA (Argentina)
ReplyDeleteI have a HUGE one that I had for years in Texas.... I had it before it was a "trend" and I'll have it after the trend comes and goes!! I adore the real ones, I'm not a fan of any of the "fake" real things (like coral, etc.) but that's just me!!
ReplyDeletehappy spring!
