I recently had a birthday and received a dozen beautiful long-stemmed coral roses. For reasons only mother nature knows, they quickly began to wilt. I couldn't stand the thought of throwing them away, so to salvage the flowers I trimmed the stems, wrapped them with wire, and hung the roses upside down from a mirror to dry. Still pretty enough for a photo.
How closed mouth can you be....HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY DEBORAH! Great idea to save a little of your flowers and yes they are still pretty!
ReplyDeleteHappy recent-birthday! I hope the day was very special.

Thank you, Angex.
ReplyDeleteDebra of AO - Yes, I am reticent by nature. My guess is that I barely uttered a sound upon emerging from the womb all those years ago. Thanks for the birthday wish.
Happy belated Birthday Deborah! Oh, I hate it when roses die too fast. Great idea to keep them dry! Roses are my favorite flower actually!! Love them in all shapes and sizes and colours and yes, they die way too fast!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday again!!!

One possibility is that the stems had an air bubble so they couldn't drink water. Fill a sink with cool water- enough to cover the roses. Make your fresh cut and submerse them for however long- 10 minutes to 30...then take them out and see if that perks them. I've had great success with that. But hey! You get gorgeous dried flowers and nothing's wrong with that! Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the color of these roses they are beautiful. What a Blessing to receive them!
ReplyDeleteDeborah!!! Happpy Birthday!! The roses are gorgeous!

Happy belated birthday. Beautiful roses!!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY! I have been reading your blog for so long and just love it. I bought myself some roses like yours and have them on my coffee table...just makes me happy to look at them. Also, I won one of Brooke's ornaments, too. Sad to put it away...I had hung it on a crystal decanter.

PS. I am a happy little follower of yours!
Happy Belated Birthday Wwishes! Beautiful roses...too bad they wilted so quickly. My mother told me if you put them in a sink of cold water, maybe even some ice for a while it will perk them up. Not sure if it works, but worth a try if it ever happens again! Salvaging them like you did is a great way to enjoy them all the longer :)
ReplyDeleteWell, again Happy Belated Birthday Wishes!!
