Country Home Magazine, February 2006. Photo source here. |
I have been culling my collection of magazines and found an old issue of Country Home, which was my favorite magazine along with Cottage Living. It's a shame that both magazines are no longer published (along with a few other casualties of the 2008 economic downturn).
Anyway, this photo is not from the sole Country Home magazine in my collection, but I remember the feature well. The contrast between the toast colored furniture and cool blue-green walls (painted Restoration Hardware's Silver Sage--remember that paint color?) made quite an impression on me. The black accents work well too along with the shine from the mercury glass lamp. Why isn't someone reproducing lamps like this today? They are impossible to find.
I have the itch to buy this paint and get busy, but the open floor plan of my house means that the entire downstairs would have to be painted this color, which probably wouldn't work well long-term. At least I can admire it from afar.
Wow, thanks for the flashback!
ReplyDeleteI remember that feature in Country Home very well! It influenced a change in my decor taste and I drooled over those pictures and wanted to slipcover EVERY thing I owned in a neutral shade of linen. I really miss both of those magazines. Country Home was and is still my favorite magazine of all time. It was fabulous! Funny seeing this post, I notice that with the exception of two wings chairs in my living room, all the other seating in our home is in neutral linens like this.
Hi Elena - I hope that someday, someone will bring back magazines that were similar to Country Home and Cottage Living.

This is a very cozy and calm room. Love the subtle wall color. I bet some sea glass would look nice with this look!
ReplyDeleteI love this room! Thanks for sharing.

This room is fabulous! First of all, the paint color is fabulous. All the things you mentioned are exactly my thoughts. The black pops against the muted colors and gives an elegant vibe to the space. The mercury glass lamp is lovely. Saw a chubby, short mercury glass lamp today while out shopping that I fell in love with. But, this one is beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove this room, Deborah. If I owned another home, this would definitely be its style. Why can't I have the seven houses I need???

Still a beautiful and liveable room! I miss Country Home - one of the very first magazines that inspired me to pursue antiques and decorating. I loved the annual "let's go antiquing" issue.
ReplyDeleteCheers,

It's just as beautiful today - love the neutral palette!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool room. I love the design and want to apply on my house for my Bedroom Decor ideas. Thanks.
