The wall behind my sofa is similar to the wall in this living room. The ceilings aren't as high, but it is one big white wall. There is a mirror over the sofa at the moment, but this photo has me reconsidering my choice. I'm absolutely smitten with this room. It will be a challenge to find such a large print without breaking the bank, but maybe I'll take some photos this weekend and see if I can make my own print.
i love this room too deborah. i notice a lot of crafty bloggers are making their own artwork for spaces like this. i think it's a brilliant idea and so far the ones i've seen have been beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Janet - Thanks for the encouragement. We'll see how it goes.
DeleteThink big Deborah, love that room. Lauren over at pure style home took a small print and made it huge for her dining room and did it on the cheap. Go to her blog and look through her archives for how she did it she gives step by step instructions.

Debra~
Hi Debra - I've seend Lauren's blog and she is very creative. I remember well that post she did about enlarging prints. Such good information.
DeleteHi Deborah - That is a wonderful living room!! Love the "no rug" and "bare windows" look....still soft and warm with the slipcovered pieces, large pillows and dark wooden tables. I think a mirror is nice as it would reflect all the light....but would have to consider the view being reflected. I would try to hang something with good size / scale to take your eye up.....make the ceilings feel loftier. Let us know what you come up with :-)

Hi Loi - The unfortunate thing is that the mirror is currently reflecting the flat-screen TV (ugh). Thanks for the sound advice! I'm just concerned about having something too large, since my living room doesn't have the tall windows/doors that this room has. The rug will definitely be rolled up for summer. It's seagrass and I'm a bit tired of it.
DeleteDefinitely don't want to reflect TV. Try taping a large template with newspaper / kraft paper for scale. You might like the large size. My living room is 8'6" and I have a huge mirror with strong frame....my sofa overlaps it. Anyhow, the large mirror makes the room feel taller.
DeleteWhat a beautiful room...!

i'm smitten too and must see more images of the space!

I love this room. It's not the print that will cost an arm and a leg, it's the frame. Still, might be worth it.

I love it, it creates such drama!

Good luck Deborah - ever the practical one I'm immediately thinking of big strong dyna bolts to hang your over-sized piece! A brave, but very commendable move my dear, time to give the mirror a holiday elsewhere in your house.
